TALKING POINT

A familiar fight? For all of the talk about another title meltdown, Arsenal are locked in a battle for Champions League qualification that has become par for the course in recent seasons. Wenger knows he needs to snare third spot to be sure. If Manchester City spring a shock and go on to win the Champions League while dropping out of the top four, then the Citizens will qualify as holders and the fourth-placed PL side will drop into the Europa League.

Arsenal face three sides currently in the bottom four in their last four matches but could face a nervy finale if there are any more slips, particularly as they travel to the Citizens in their penultimate game. Fans again protested their disillusionment with another season where the team failed to live up to their high expectations ahead of kick off. It’s already a precarious time for Wenger and failure to make the CL would surely be the last straw for many.

KEY MOMENTS

6′ – GOAL! ARSENAL 1-0 WEST BROM. Arsenal lead! Sanchez turns into space and bamboozles Sandro before rifling a low drive into the bottom corner from 25 yards.

29′ – OFF THE BAR! Gareth McAuley rises at the near post but sees his header from a right-wing corner ping back off the woodwork.

38′ – GOAL! ARSENAL 2-0 WEST BROM. Sanchez grabs his second of the night with a whipped free kick that arcs through a breaking wall and into the bottom corner. Too easy.

33′ – ARSENAL CHANCE! More great work from Bellerin on the right. The full back cuts it back to Ozil on the edge of the box who sees Craig Dawson hack it off the line after the ball had somehow squirmed under Foster.

68′ – ARSENAL CHANCE! More Arsenal pressure sees them overload the penalty area. It’s eventually shifted to Ozil who sees a shot directed across goal well saved by Foster.

72′ – WEST BROM CHANCE! Gardner’s left wing corner is missed by Cech and he is grateful that Rondon can’t convert on the stretch at the back post. The goal was gaping.
