Riyad Mahrez Named BBC African Player Of The Year 2016
It has been reported that Riyad Mahrez was named the BBC African Football of the Year on Monday evening.
The Leicester City and Algeria international winger added the African top player prize to the PFA Player of the Year he won with the Foxes in 2015/16.
Mahrez, 25, beat Liverpool’s Sadio Mane, West Ham United’s Andre Ayew, Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Manchester City’s Yaya Toure.
The former Le Havre man told the BBC: “It means a lot, it’s something big for African players so I am very happy, I am very proud.
“It’s always good to receive awards and for African players it’s a huge honour. To all the fans, thank you very much.”
He added: “Also I want to thank the Algeria fans and dedicate this to them as well and for my family.
“I just have to carry on and keep going with my football and see what I can do.”
